“As if knocked out by a shotgun shot.” UFC knockout of the year from African veteran?
The mixed martial arts tournament UFC Vegas 35 has ended in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA). The main battle of the tournament was fought between the Georgian Giga Chikadze and the Brazilian Edson Barbosa, who lost by technical knockout in the third round. But, perhaps, the most striking fight took place within the framework of the preliminary card. Abdul Razak Alhassan from Ghana and Italian Alessio Di Chirico met in the cage .
In fact, it was a fight for the right to stay in the promotion – lately, both athletes have not pleased their fans with the results. The 36-year-old Ghanaian managed to play two fights at Bellator, and since 2016 he registered for the UFC, where he earned a 4-4 record. In his passive was a series of three defeats, and the last victory was dated 2018 – then Niko Price was knocked out at the 43rd second.
For the 31-year-old Italian, the situation is not much better – one victory in the last four fights. Although he had already held the 10th meeting in the UFC, his name never appeared on the poster of a numbered tournament, even in the preliminary card.
Alhassan won about half of his career victories in the first round, so the Italian had to guess what to prepare for. Di Chirico even went on the offensive from the very beginning, throwing out a couple of front kicks – they were effortlessly blocked by the Ghanaian and almost caught the opponent’s leg. What did he do next? The retaliatory high-kick of such a furious force that Alessio was instantly knocked out – referee Herb Dean instantly stopped the fight.
Not a single extra movement and the end of the fight in 17 seconds. Although it looked brutal (nomination for Knockout of the Year definitely), during the interview, Abdul Razak even shed a tear. After all, he won the first victory since 2018.
“I can’t wait to talk to my son. He watched my last few fights. When I got home one day, the first thing he said to me was, “Dad, you have to stop losing and start winning.” I can’t wait to call him and tell him that Dad won, ”said the emotional Ghanaian after the fight.
Alhassan said that he changed the training method, as he was considered a one-round fighter. If it went beyond the first five minutes, where cardio was required, then he was definitely losing. However, the Ghanaian again bet on the first round and did not lose. All of his 11 career victories were obtained in the first round, 8 in the first minute.
Stunning statistics. No wonder he received a bonus from the UFC in the amount of $ 50 thousand for this fight. He also became the seventh fighter in the history of the promotion, who has at least three knockout wins in the first minute of the fight. It is also the fastest knockout in the UFC since a head kick. Nikita Krylov in 2014 worked Walt Harris in the same way in 25 seconds.
Interestingly, the Ghanaian took more than 45 minutes for 4 defeats. But for 11 wins, 15 minutes and 39 seconds were enough for him.
The fans certainly appreciated this social media high kick.
