Oleg Bogatov. A two-time medalist Alexey Denisenko continues to struggle for a license to participate in the Olympic Games 2020 in Japan, told RIA Novosti the head coach of Russian national team Taekwondo team Vadim Ivanov.
Denisenko took third place at the tournament in London (in the weight category up to 58 kilograms) and was second at the competition in Rio de Janeiro (in the weight category up to 68 kg). The selection of Games in Tokyo will be completed in December 2019, vouchers will be given to five top rated athletes in each category. The Russians at the moment is at the ninth position.
“We assumed that the situation Alexei could deteriorate in connection with the broken arm received in the end of August, – said Ivanov. But the chance to win licenses for the Olympic games still remain, because it is no big gap in points from athletes that are above. And will be played quite a large number of rating points”.
“In front of three of the tournament – the Grand Prix in Bulgaria, the European championship in Italy and the Grand Prix final in Moscow, – said the Agency interlocutor. The recovery went well and the doctors have already given Alex official permit to perform in competitions. He is now training have a chance and we will fight for the license to play in Tokyo.”
The Grand Prix tournament will take place in Sofia on 18-20 October.
