NHL Commissioner: “a Break for the Olympics incredibly destructive for the League”

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said that the forced break in the middle of the regular championship of NHL associated with the players participating in the Olympic games, it is destructive to the League season.

— I think that the trip to the Olympics is a challenge for us. I know that players love to represent their countries, you know that some people like a break in the middle of the season. But we believe that a break for the Olympics is incredibly destructive for our season — said Bettman.

Olympics with NHL players took place from 1998 to 2014. During the Olympics, the NHL was forced to interrupt the regular season for two to three weeks. At the time of the South Korean Olympics in 2018, the League refused to suspend the League, and some clubs to release players. The winners of the men’s hockey tournament in Pyeongchang became the Russian athletes.

The next winter Olympics will be held in Beijing in 2022 from 4 to 20 February.
