The international Federation of ice hockey in August (IIHF) announced the disqualification Kuznetsova four years. A doping sample taken from the player 26 may 2019, gave a positive result for cocaine. The disqualification applies to international performances, but will not affect the NHL, where the drug substance is not related to doping. The athlete agreed with the decision of the IIHF.
“It shouldn’t be left alone, he needs support. And we in the club will do it. You just need to forget this and to believe he will not repeat the mistake. He has apologized to the club, family and fans. Therefore, I believe that he is not obliged to do it all the time,” said Ovechkin, quoted in the Washington Post.
The American forward of “Washington” Tee Jay o’shea and club General Manager Brian McLellan also expressed support for Kuznetsov. “I think he understands that it was a big mistake, and he repents, said McLellan. He knows he made a mistake and wants to get rid of it. He is ready to answer for his actions, but he doesn’t have to think about it, and it is necessary to move forward.”
