TASS, December 13. Russian David Avanesyan defended the title of European champion among professional boxers in the weight category up 66,68 kg In a 12-round fight in Barcelona he won the Spanish Jose del Rio in the first knockout round.
Avanesyan second time he defended the European championship belt, which was won in March of this year, thanks to the victory over Spaniard Kevin Lejarraga technical knockout in the ninth round. In September the Russians a second time won Lejarraga technical knockout in the first round.
With a record of 31-year-old Russian now has 26 wins (14 by knockout), three losses and one draw. The Russians won the interim belt of the world champion world Boxing Association (WBA) in November 2015, thanks to a victory over Venezuelan Charlie Navarro by TKO in the ninth round, and in may 2016, defended his title by beating American Shane Mosley on points. In November 2016 WBA translated American Keith Thurman in the rank of world super champion and the regular Avanesyan declared, but the Russian failed to defend the belt, losing in February 2017 American Lamont Peterson on points.
Avanesyan in 2009 were exclusively in Russia, where he won the title of national champion and three regional belt by the world Boxing Council (WBC), and since 2014 is conducting fights abroad and now lives in British Newark.
34-year-old del Rio suffered a ninth defeat of his career with 29 wins (7 by knockout) and one draw.
