“Traktor” took first place, SKA failed to cope with the KHL champion. Results of the Sochi Hockey Open
The Sochi Hockey Open, one of the brightest tournaments of the pre-season, has ended in Sochi. The Black Sea city, as always, pleased with its hospitality and hockey, which everyone has probably already had enough time for. “Championship” sums up the results of the tournament.
“Traktor” – debutant and winner
Chelyabinsk citizens took part in the Sochi Hockey Open for the first time and immediately won the tournament. “Traktor” presented a strongly updated and noticeably strengthened team, in which the new link shone brightest. Moreover, it was created involuntarily (due to the injury of Tomas Giki), and, apparently, temporarily, but the combination of Abramov – Sedlak – Tertyshny scored eight of the team’s 14 goals and looked wonderful. Vitaliy was recognized as MVP, Lukash became the top scorer, and Nikita is doing everything to make the viewing contract a full-fledged one. The newcomers also looked great – Tkachev, Pulkkinen. Most of the “Traktor” also worked like a clock. Of course, it is difficult to draw far-reaching conclusions in the preseason, but here the team looked more powerful than everyone else and one can hope that the team will make some noise in the championship.
Sochi is trying, but they are missing in the end
The tournament hosts won only one match out of four and scored only five goals – the result is unimportant, and even Evgeny Stavrovsky admits that the team needs strengthening, especially in the completion of attacks. However, it is worth noting that the team really fought and gave all the best, and did not play carelessly, and looked decent in games with the top teams of the KHL. With Avtomobilist, for example, they were twice leading in the score and lost only in overtime, and in the victorious match with the youth team they did not come apart after 0: 2. Another internal reserve is Magnus Hellberg, who has not yet been able to account for the first victory for the new team. However, he joined the Leopards just a couple of weeks ago, we need to give him time to adapt, get in shape and get used to new partners.
The youth finished the tournament on a high note
The youth team of Russia under the leadership of Igor Larionov again played in Sochi, but, unlike the previous year, was able to win only the last match. However, the difference in experience and physical power against the background of the KHL clubs was noticeable, and the result, therefore, is quite expected. Nevertheless, the guys showed perky smart hockey, did not get lost against the background of venerable rivals and played with them on equal terms.
“Avtomobilist” – master of comebacks
Avtomobilist was the first to concede in all four matches in the tournament (sometimes more than one goal), but every time he showed a strong character, recouped, and then brought the matter to the end in overtime or in shootouts. It was not possible to gnaw out victory only in the final match with the youth team, which would have guaranteed them the first place in the tournament, but it doesn’t matter. It should be noted that Avtomobilist’s main goalkeeper Yakub Kovar did not play in Sochi, he continues to recover from injury, and only one match was played by Stefan Da Costa, and besides, Sergey Shumakov was injured in the penultimate game. Let’s wait for the team to start playing with the optimal lineup.
Avangard and SKA traditionally closed the tournament
The meeting between SKA and Avangard is the loudest sign of the tournament, which traditionally closes it. The match turned out to be fighting and viscous, no one wanted to concede a single centimeter of ice. The fact that this is only a preseason, absolutely nothing reminded. Peter Ceglaric, whom Avangard took to replace Reed Boucher, fired from the right throw-in circle, especially in the majority, but missed a few 100% chances. Bob Hartley is confident that goals will come as soon as the striker gets used to the new club.
For 40 minutes no one could win back the score, and only in the middle of the third period Avangard struck Lars Johansson. Nail Yakupov (he missed the championship playoffs due to injury), which Hartley cannot get enough of this summer, deceived Johansson, forcing him to twitch behind him, and gave Dmitry Shevchenko a pass to an empty net.
SKA lost twice in Sochi with a minimum score – first to Traktor, and now to the current holder of the Gagarin Cup. But, one must think, the main thing for the army team is to check different combinations, because the team has changed a lot. At the end of August, these teams will meet again at the Puchkov tournament in St. Petersburg, and there will be an opportunity to take revenge.
